My Favourite Books On Mindfulness Meditation

If you’re anything like me, you might just love to read.
Double that with mindfulness meditation and you’ve got yourself a beautifully relaxing combination.

But, the question I asked myself when I first chose to learn about mindfulness and meditation was, what books are worth reading?
Which are the most informative?
And which will I walk away from with an abundance of actionable tips, advice and exercises?

What Is Mindfulness Meditation?

Before running through each of my favourite mindfulness meditation books, I thought it would be worth a quick recap on exactly what it is.

Mindfulness meditation is all about teaching yourself to let go of negativity, control and slow down racing thoughts, and becoming aware of what you’re sensing and feeling at the given moment. It’s not necessarily about clearing your mind, but more about understanding and feeling it.

In its most basic form, I like to think of it as the act of purposely focusing attention on the present moment without judgement or negativity.

My Favourite Mindfulness Meditation Books

A quick search through any bookstore, offline or online, will provide so many great options when it comes to mindfulness. I’ve certainly read my fair share of them and have carefully chosen the few that I believe are the best options for anyone wanting an introduction into mindfulness meditation, or to learn more about it.

These are my top picks, in no particular order.

1. Wherever You Go, There You Are –
Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life

Wherever You Go, There You Are

Wherever You Go, There You Are

Author: Jon Kabat-Zinn
Released: 2005

This is an amazing book both for those practicing mindfulness for the first time, and for those who’ve been doing so long term. Jon breaks down common preconceptions that people have about mindfulness and maps out a path for individuals to improve their mindsets and live in the present moment.

Upon reading the book, you’ll understand why the name, Wherever you go, there you are, is what it is.

2. Five Minute Meditation –
Mindfulness, Stress Relief, and Focus for Absolute Beginners

Five Minute Meditation is a handbook that’s designed to guide beginners as they enter the world of mindfulness meditation. The premise of the book is to set aside 5 minutes each to practice mindfulness with the goal of reducing stress.

This is the perfect introduction to mindfulness. Not only because it’s a great read and Lisa really knows her stuff, but also because it’s short (around 33 pages) and succinct.

3. Real Happiness: The Power of Meditation –

5. The Miracle of Mindfulness –
An Introduction to the Practice of Meditation

The Miracle of Mindfulness

The Miracle of Mindfulness

Author: Thich Nhat Hanh
Released: 1975

The Miracle of Mindfulness is one of the most well-known and highly regarded books there is when it comes to mindfulness. It’s a beloved classic that features a lighthearted and lightly humorous tone while educating and inspiring. It’s also one of the best mindfulness books for beginners.

The book is focused on introducing what mindfulness meditation is and what it can do for you. Additionally, there are many exercises explained to get you started and provide a reference as you continue to practice mindfulness.

6. Your Guide To Achieving A Life of Peace By Reducing Stress and Anxiety Through Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness Meditation

Mindfulness Meditation

Author: Daniel K. Barton
Released: 2016

The history of mindfulness, the benefits, and how to practice it. Everything is covered in Daniel Barton’s bestseller and it’s often considered an all-in-one guide to mindfulness.

Unlike many of the other books, this one is perfect for anyone who really loves to understand a topic and learn as much as they can before starting something. Barton really takes the time to explain mindfulness and takes the time to praise of it’s benefits before getting into the more practical side of things.

My Takeaway

Mindfulness can take quite some time to understand and even more-so to effectively implement in your day-to-day life. But it’s a beautiful process to learn.

There are so many amazing and educational books out there that it can be tough to choose the one that’s most aligned with your reading and learning style. The handful that I’ve featured above have been chosen based on my own preferences, but they all touch on a different take on mindfulness and feature a range of different exercises.

My advice would be to skim through each, read the blurb and choose the one that best calls out to you.
