Sucking - A Starting Point

Sucking is a Starting Point

Good things come to those who are willing to suck. No matter how much of a natural talent I have had for anything, at the beginning I always sucked. Sure I can have some beginner's luck  but sucking at something is where I always start. Sucking is relative and one man's meat is another man's poison. It is simply the beginning of a process and as the old adage goes 'Rome wasn't built in a day'. Sucking on a big picture scale is interwoven into our evolution of a species. We used to burn people at the stake for their belief's, that sucked. We used to engage our swords in combat in order to resolve our disputes, that sucked. But out of this sucking came some reflection on our mistakes and with these mistakes came a re calibration of our thinking and our understanding of life. When reading a sentence that contains an emotive word like 'suck' I have noticed that I have a tendency to fixate on this word and overlook the key word the sentence actually contains, that word being the word 'start'. The word 'start' looks so plain and ordinary and I certainly don't have a visceral reaction to it but I have learned over time that the ordinary and the simple is often where the treasure I seek is hidden.
